Electronic Health Record

Supporting Physician Adoption and Meaningful Use

Converting narrative data – a patient’s “health story” -- into structured data that powers Electronic Health Records will help healthcare facilities demonstrate “meaningful use” of their EHR solutions. MedQuist is deeply involved in partnering with its customers and other members of the HIM community to facilitate the long-term move to EHRs.

The core integration that MedQuist has developed within its dictation and transcription solutions fits naturally into the technical workflow that will support an EHR.  Healthcare organizations will be able to maintain the efficiency of their current processes from a physician perspective, but still derive the benefits of Electronic Health Records, using MedQuist’s technology- and service-based solutions.

EHR-Integrated Dictation

The option to merge dictation with EHR solutions gives physicians the traditional interface they prefer to capture narrative detail, while allowing them to incorporate both voice input and structured text in a single application to easily create an accurate, comprehensive clinical document note. This type of integration supports the goal of increasing physician adoption of EHR tools.

At Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, Wis., the implementation of MedQuist’s EHR-integrated dictation with the Epic Hyperspace Client platform resulted in a 70 percent decrease in total minutes dictated on inpatient reports.  Using the existing transcription workflow helped make the template-driven system more user-friendly and efficient, and facilitated physician adoption from the start.

Front-End Speech Recognition

As providers in Radiology and other specialties become accustomed to the benefits of “once-and-done” dictation, their receptiveness to EHR adoption increases rapidly.
